Mobile feels better, search gets sharper, 28 new article images

First polish pass since launch — better mobile map interactions, smarter search ranking, a cleaner state filter, and 28 articles got fresh hero photography.

Forgiving facility taps on mobile

Facility dots on the map are small. On mobile they were small enough to be frustrating to tap. We added a 20-pixel tap radius around each dot, and when your tap lands near multiple dots, the closest one wins. Should feel less like target practice now.

Search ranks by name first

Searching for "Marathon" used to surface marinas whose names just happened to contain the substring "arina" before the actual Marathon Marina. Fixed: name matches rank above substring matches, with a higher relevance threshold.

Better state filter

The state filter dropdown used to have 251 unlabeled stops and was missing six states. We added a country column to the database, geocoded 573 facilities to assign them properly, and cleaned up 1,264 town-embedded states. Now the dropdown shows 28 properly-labeled states and regions.

Draggable bottom sheet on mobile

On mobile, the bottom sheet that holds the planner controls used to take up 70% of the viewport by default. It now defaults to half (50vh) and you can drag it to three snap points: closed, half, full. Less of your map gets covered up.

28 new article hero images

We did a full pass on hero photography across 28 articles — searched Pexels and Pixabay, AI-scored thousands of candidates, picked the best one per article, and gave every selected photographer credit on the article footer. Same articles, much better photos.

Smaller stuff

The search input on iPhone no longer triggers auto-zoom when you tap it (font size bumped to 16). The CCW/CW direction toggle has a tooltip explaining what it does. Both small fixes — both make daily use less annoying.
