Marine forecasts and warnings now follow your whole day

The old briefings checked wind at your starting point and missed alerts that NWS issues by water zone — not by land county. So if you started in a sheltered harbor but your day's route crossed open water with an active Small Craft Advisory, the briefing didn't see it.

That's fixed. The briefings now sample your day's route at five points, look up every marine zone you'd cross, and pull warnings from each. If any zone has an active SCA, Gale, Storm, Hurricane, or Special Marine warning, the briefing recommends a layover — full stop. No more cheerful "great day to move" on a four-foot-chop day.

"Behind today's plan" — see exactly what went into the briefing

Every briefing now opens with a panel showing what we used to build it:

• Your boat profile (LOA, draft, air draft, cruising speed × daily hours)
• Today's leg distance and the cardinal direction you're heading
• How fresh your last position update is
• The routes you've enabled
• The weather sources we pulled
• The facilities along the leg

One clean "Today's Route" table

The "Upcoming Stops" and "Navigation Notes" sections are now a single ordered table:

• Type icons for bridges, fuel docks, locks, anchorages, marinas, dock walls
• Each stop with its distance from your starting point and type-specific notes
• Warnings (low clearances, depth limits) shown in red and bold so they don't get lost in the prose

Direction-aware briefings

If you're cruising the Loop and your position sits on a side trip you haven't entered yet, the old briefing could point you the wrong way — sending you further up a dead-end river instead of forward along your actual route. The briefing now honors the same direction logic the planner uses, so what it tells you matches what your trip actually does.

Anchorages with rough coordinates are now filtered out

About a third of the anchorages in our database came in with low-precision coordinates — accurate to about a kilometer, which is fine for "this cove is a good anchorage" but not fine for "drop the hook here." Those are now excluded from briefing recommendations. We'd rather show you fewer options than send you toward shallow water or off the navigable channel. The well-sourced anchorages are unaffected.

Preview briefings for upcoming trips

If your trip start date is still in the future, your briefings now correctly say "Preview · trip starts in N days" instead of pretending you're already underway. The narrative drops "cast off this morning" language so it doesn't read as an active-day plan.

Incomplete boat profiles get a heads-up

If your boat profile is missing a key field (like cruising speed), the briefing now tells you straight up — "Boat profile: incomplete, defaulting to 5-hour days" — instead of producing a confusing recommendation with no explanation. Open Settings → Boat to fill in the missing pieces.

Transparency at the top of every email

Every briefing now leads with a short note explaining why you're receiving it and where to turn it off (Settings → Notifications). No surprises.
